So after almost a weeks worth of Chester showing up in the mornings with fascinating stories to tell me about how his practices were going, I finally promised to go to his concert. He was clearly excited about it, so I figured he'd be severely disappointed if I didn't show up. Me, Chels, Katherine, and Fareed ended up going, it was at Lipscomb in the Collins Auditorium, and btw all of their buildings and the campus in general is gorgeous. He did the same thing that we all do at concerts, which was 1. sit down and put his clarinet together 2. nonchalantly look around until he found us 3. Chels and I wave frantically at him 4. He gives a small wave, looks satisfied, and promptly starts to warm up. Needles to say, we all enjoyed it that he indulges in the same pre-performance routine that we all do. The first half of the performance was all John Barnes Chance music (which was INCREDIBLE) and later they moved on to a couple Jager pieces. We also debated longer than necessary about how it was pronounced. So this ensemble, just winds and a few percussion, they were the most amazing, balanced band I've ever heard. I mean I would be shocked if they weren't because they had symphony members in there, plus Chester, who is brilliant, was only 2nd to last chair. He was still pleased though, because apparently that's the best third clarinet section he's ever heard. They played Elegy, Incantation and Dance, and two other pieces that I can't remember but were still really awesome. I was really glad that I went because it really did end up being the best concert I've ever been to. Plus I got back so late that I didn't do my hw. School night well spent? I think so.
